Inland waterways (IWW) skippers benefit from the long intervals between overhauls and from the durability and reliability of MaK engines.

Many IWW skippers have MaK engines with many running hours which are still working well. When the engines need to be replaced, skippers often opt for re-engining. That is a financially attractive alternative to purchasing a new vessel.
